Wednesday, March 6, 2013

It will soon be Easter!  It's hard to believe, but it's an early Easter this year.  The kids are all talking about March break, we're turning the clocks forward this week-end and just around the corner it will be the Easter season!

Anyhow, I wanted to tell you all about the Toronto Passion Play which will be held at Church on the Queensway in Toronto.  It is an amazing opportunity to see the life of Jesus and the hope we have in Him acted out and presented in drama and music.

This year, our very own Dale (from Joykids radio and Joykids live) is in the performance.  The entire cast and crew has been working so so hard on it.

You can go to the website www.torontopassionplay.com for more info on how to get tickets, performance times (there are five shows over Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday) and the address for the church.  You will need to get your tickets soon, as they will not last long.

We hope to see some of you there!

God Bless and have a wonderful March break!

Happy Valentines Day :)

By: Shanarah Boreland

When we think about Valentines day we think about 3 things: Love, Hearts, and Cards...
But let's focus on the first 2 things... Love and Heart...

What is this thing called "Love"? A thing that is a feeling? An emotion that comes and goes? What is true love in the first place? All good questions that the Bible has answers to.

You see, it isn't a feeling, it's not conditional, it's not an emotion that comes and goes. It's a passion, choice, motivation and it's unconditional. Also an all year round thing (not just on valentines day). Most importantly, God is love and brings true love to our hearts.

God has an unconditional, pure love, for us... For me, and for you.

Keep that in mind this valentines day :)

Did you know? Every year: over 180,000 valentines and
190,000 roses are handed out each year.

Verses to remember:
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
~ 1st Corinthians 13:4-7

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’c; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’d
~ Luke 10:27

Welcome to June!  It is almost summer :)  The days are longer now and people are putting their gardens together.  Such fun.

Of course, with summer just around the corner comes school finishing!  So, I imagine there are LOTS of excited kids.

With summer comes a busy season for the Joykids team.  If you would like any information about the Joykids Live presentations that our team does, you can e-mail us.

We have over 12 years of experience with the Joykids Live shows (which feature puppetry, illusions with a Biblical application, ventriloquism, story telling, songs and games).  We do many different types of presentations and can perform for kids mid-week clubs, church family services, at weddings, kids programs during church and birthday parties.

So, for any questions you have, drop us an e-mail and we'd love to get back to you!

Mother's day 2012

MOTHER'S DAY 2012
By: Shanarah Boreland

In Canada, we are celebrating mommy's day on the 13th.

Mom's, kids do not always think of them 24/7, and (I know being a pre-teen) teenagers don't really think about what mom's do for us everyday on average.

Mom's usually do 2.2 hours of chores a day (while dad's only do 1.3 hours of chores on average a day) and most of the chores done in the year are probably that 330 loads of laundry. All the traffic stress, rush hour (which should be called no rush for over an hour, j/k). Over a lifetime two weeks of her life could be waisted waiting for red lights to change. Many moms are stay-at-home moms even though they go so many places taking their kids to programs, school, friends, etc. they're actually out-of-home-moms!  Even more moms work full-time outside the home too.  Talk about busy!

So do something nice for mom. Even thinking about her all day can make a difference.

The most popular gifts for kids to give are:
- Homemade cards
- Flowers
- Breakfast in bed
- Favourite candy

So, this mother's day, think about mom and all she does for you, and just don't think about it for this week-end, but this week-end forward.

Merry Christmas

Hi all!

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We, in the Joykids team LOVE Christmas :) It's a wonderful time to show others love and compassion, bake lots of Christmas treats, enjoy Hot Chocolate while singing Christmas carols and spend time with people we love!

Amongst that, there are people who don't have as much as we do. Remember, you can consider changing someone's live in another country. If you go to www.worldvision.ca you can order something for their gift catalogue.

Also, please remember to pray for others who have a difficult time at Christmas. I know of several people who have lost family members recently. It's a tough time of year to be without a loved one. Also, it can be stressful for some too, as they don't have good family relationships. So, be sure to spend time praying for school friends or co-workers who have a tough family life.

This Saturday, our Joykids radio show will be doing it's annual Christmas carol countdown! We will be taking votes to find out the 5 most popular Christmas carols :) Let's see if Silent Night will make it on the list! It was last year's winner and is so far, not even in the top 5 for this year!!!

Joykids is on air this Saturday at 8 am. You can listen to us live at www.joy1250.ca :) Enjoy and Merry Christmas and remember to keep Jesus the focus of Christmas.

Christmas Ideas!!

Hi all!!!

Hope you are enjoying your November so far! In just over a month, it will be Christmas Day :)

I know it is still early, but I know many people who are already asking for Christmas gift lists. So, here are some of the suggestions that we love here in the Boreland household:

We mentioned a few weeks ago about the Samaritan's Purse shoe boxes (Operation Christmas Child). The pick up week in Canada is November 21-27. If you go to the website www.samaritanspurse.ca, they have a lot of ideas on how to pack a shoe box and you can even find drop off locations for your shoe boxes.

What I love about the shoe boxes, is that our kids have so much fun with it! They pick items up from a store, pack the shoe boxes and get to take them to a drop off location. It's very involved for them and they love knowing that the shoe box will help a boy or girl during the Christmas season.

Another suggestion is the World Vision gift catalogue. Are you someone who has enough and often wonders what to tell people to get you for Christmas? Or, as a parent, do you want to limit how many gifts your child gets? Or, are you just wanting your family to do more than just give each other gifts? A gift catalogue from World Vision is an amazing idea!

There are items in the catalogue that you can pick which will change a life in many countries around the world. There are things like animals, to clothing to medicine and farming supplies. All of which will impact and change someone's life! You ask for the gift, it is bought from the catalogue and given to a family in need.

Why not think of picking a gift from the World Vision catalogue? Instead of getting another DVD, sweater or gift card from a store, why not ask for a gift from the catalogue, which will go to help someone in need.

For more info, you can go to www.worldvision.ca :)

Why not think of ways that you and your family can be generous this Christmas :)

Thanks and hope you have a wonderful rest of the month!!
